Seasonal Inflammation
What is seasonal inflammation? As we change seasons, our bodies have to process that change. The weather changes, the food and drinks change, allergens change and stress shifts as we move into a new season.
Symptoms of seasonal inflammation can include joint pain, congestion, muscle aches, increased cravings for sugar or alcohol, brain fog, skin irritation, low energy and poor digestion.
Luckily, there are some wonderful foods and herbs that help with inflammation in the body (and more than a few that don't.. oh hi sugar and alcohol! ). Here's a few of my ayurvedic favorites.
Celery juice: Waaaaay before the medical medium was getting everyone to drink celery juice, ayurveda was using this wonder veggie to help with inflammation. This is because celery contains Luteolin, a flavonoid that acts as a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Studies actually show that celery helps decrease your chances of dementia and alzheimer's.
Pro-tip: Drink 4-6 ounces of fresh pressed celery juice first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Amalaki: Not only does amalaki help mitigate stress due to it's adaptogenic properties it also has a potent amount of vitamin C. Vitamin C works as an antioxidant, cleaning up the free radicals that cause disease and inflammation.
Pro-tip: You can get a daily dose of amalaki in our Epic elderberry shot which also happens to contain acerola, another vitamin C superstar.
Matcha: A matcha a day keeps the inflammation at bay. Matcha is rich in active components that improve health, including polyphenols, another powerful anti-inflammatory. Matcha increases cellular energy and increases autophagy.
Pro tip: Our pineapple matcha energy shot contains organic matcha along with adaptogens eleuthero and cordyceps for a natural healthy energy.
Cacao: Organic raw cacao is LOADED with antioxidants and minerals like magnesium, zinc, iron and more. It's amazing ability to help with migraines and pain due to its anti-inflammatory effects make it a perfect addition to cold weather changes. Medicinal and delicious?? Yes, please!
Pro-tip: Kapow Cacao contains 6 super adaptogens to help boost its health properties. Mix it up daily in place of coffee or as an evening treat.
Turmeric: Of course we have to include turmeric which is known specifically for its anti-inflammatory properties. Studies show that daily consumption of turmeric protects the brain, joints and even skin, making aging easier.
Pro-tip: Our Totally Turmeric daily adaptogen wellness shot has a blend of organic turmeric, Ginger and lemon for the ultimate immunity boost.
Of course, proper sleep, hydration and exercise will all help to bolster the immune system and therefore keep inflammation down.
In good health,
Amanda
